The staple dishes of the island include rice and curry, hoppers, and string hoppers, with side dishes like coconut sambal and coconut-based gravies. Local spices take centre stage in flavouring any dish in Sri Lanka, while gravies are made primarily with coconut milk. Locally grown tea is the most popular drink in the country, while street foods like prawn wades and kottus are popular in street food places.
